AMERICAN RED CROSS Babysitters Training Course

RED CROSS BABYSITTING TRAINING COURSE TO BE HELD AT
THE CAPE COD CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

Have a young teen in your household who would like to start earning money
by babysitting? The Cape Cod Children’s Museum’s Babysitting Training Course
will help your child, age 11 to 15, learn the ropes of care-giving. Upon completion
of the one-day class, each participant will receive certification from the American
Red Cross – a sure fire way to garner lots of babysitting jobs!

This fun and interactive course teaches important skills that allow young adults
to safely and affectively care for small children. Among the topics that will be
covered are: how to perform first aid; identifying common safety hazards; making
responsible decisions; supervising infants and school-age children; choosing safe
and age-appropriate toys; performing basic care routines like diapering, feeding
and dressing; preparing simple meals and snacks; handling bedtime issues; and
finding and interviewing for babysitting jobs.

The class meets from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and students are required to bring their
own lunch. More information can be obtained by calling the Museum at 508-539-8788.


The Babysitter’s Training Course from the American Red Cross will teach you everything you
need to be a great babysitter. And there is no better place to take the class than the Cape Cod
Children’s Museum, where there are plenty of children to observe and interact with! The course
is taught by Jo-Ann Cabral, who is an American Red Cross Certified Instructor. The class includes
hands-on activities, video presentation, demonstrations, fun role play and lively discussions.
To receive certification, participants must be present for the entire 7 hours of class instruction.
Students should bring their own lunch and snacks.


You’ll learn how to:

  • Perform first aid and get professional medical help fast
  • First aid for injuries: bones, joints, muscles, burns, heat & cold emergencies
  • Identify common safety hazards and prevent injuries
  • Make good, responsible decisions
  • Supervise infants through school-age children
  • Choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games
  • Perform basic care routines like diapering, feeding, and dressing
  • Prepare simple meals and snacks
  • Handle bedtime issues
  • Find and interview for babysitting jobs


Class participants will receive:

  • American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Certificate
  • Babysitter’s Training Handbook with great information and resources


Fees:

    $45 for non-members
    $40 for members of the Cape Cod Children’s Museum

*a minimum of 6 students is required to run the class
